The Kit Carson Wildcats entered their tilt with the Hi-Plains Patriots with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Kit Carson came out on top against Hi-Plains by a score of 51-40 on Saturday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Kit Carson also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2023.
Kit Carson got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Avery Johnson out in front who scored 17 points. Another player making a difference was Lindsey Mayhan, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Hi-Plains lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jessica Sayles. Despite the final result, she scored 14 points along with five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Sayles has scored all season. Serenity Hernandez was another key contributor, scoring six points along with five steals.
Kit Carson's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-2. As for Hi-Plains, they now have a losing record at 4-5.
Kit Carson will head out on the road to square off against Granada at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Granada focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 last Thursday. As for Hi-Plains, Hi-Plains and Stratton will face off at 4:00 p.m. on January 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Stratton has three straight wins, Hi-Plains has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
