The South Delta Bulldogs waltzed into their matchup on Friday with eight straight wins but they left with nine. They walked away with a 38-31 victory over Simmons. That's another feather in the cap for South Delta, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
When it comes to explaining why Simmons lost, one person who can't be blamed is Akiah Prince. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds. That was a full 54.8% of Simmons' points, marking the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaliyah Esco, who scored six points.
South Delta is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season. As for Simmons, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Delta will take on Shaw at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Shaw is on a four-game streak of home wins, South Delta a five-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. Simmons will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against Leland at 6:00 p.m. on January 29th.
