Moore Catholic stacked a ninth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Wednesday. They blew past Fontbonne Hall Academy 82-44 at home. Winning may never get old, but Moore Catholic sure is getting used to it with their third in a row.
Moore Catholic's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Brianna Caliri, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 13 rebounds, and Emma Costanzo, who scored 17 points along with seven assists. Costanzo is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for three games straight. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Ragona, who scored 12 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Holy Cross came up short against Mary Louis Academy on Tuesday and fell 63-55. Even though they lost, Holy Cross' still made a splash on offense and bumped their average scoring up to 50.2 points per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).
Despite the defeat, Holy Cross had strong showings from Mona Okorie, who almost dropped a double-double on 25 rebounds and nine blocks, and Kyara Champagne, who scored 34 points. Okorie is crushing the rebound category: she's posted at least 12 every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamie Davneiro, who scored four points.
Moore Catholic is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season. As for Holy Cross, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-11.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Moore Catholic have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 31.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Holy Cross struggles in that department as they've been averaging 38.8 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Moore Catholic and Holy Cross were neck-and-neck in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, but Moore Catholic came up empty-handed after a 64-63 defeat. Can Moore Catholic avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
