Lyford has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against The Rio Hondo Bobcats at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Rio Hondo took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Lyford, who comes in off a win.
Last Thursday, Lyford got themselves on the board against Progreso, but Progreso never followed suit. They claimed a resounding 71-0 win over the Red Ants at home. The result was nothing new for Lyford, who have now won four matches by 20 points or more so far this season.
Adrian Chavez looked great while leading his team to the win, rushing for 117 yards and two touchdowns. Malik Torres also deserves a mention for his punt return touchdown.
Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Rio Hondo's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They suffered a rough 39-14 loss at the hands of San Diego. Rio Hondo was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 24-0.
Lyford's victory was their sixth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 8-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-9 Progreso and 2-7 Bishop (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 39.3% over those games). As for Rio Hondo, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-3.
Lyford came up short against Rio Hondo when the teams last played back in November of 2022, falling 20-14. Can Lyford avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
