The Hammond Central Wolves will head out to face off against the Marquette Catholic Blazers at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Hammond Central knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past three games -- so hopefully Marquette Catholic likes a good challenge.
On Monday, Hammond Central got the win against Gary West Side by a conclusive 21-1. The Wolves haven't had any issues with the Cougars recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.
Hammond Central got a great performance from Julian Santiago as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Santiago has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Elijah Lewis was incredible, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Hammond Central: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-2-1 otherwise. Brandon Hilliard was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles.
Hammond Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .424. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Marquette Catholic came up short against Culver Academies on Saturday, falling 14-3. The Blazers haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.
Hammond Central's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-3-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 24.3 runs over those games. As for Marquette Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3.
Hammond Central took their victory against Marquette Catholic in their previous meeting back in May of 2023 by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolves since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
