Softball Recap: Lake Norman Wins Going Away Against Cox Mill

Lake Norman got themselves on the board against Cox Mill on Friday, but Cox Mill never followed suit. They blew past the Chargers 14-0. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won four games by nine runs or more so far this season.

Charlee Kelly made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, she gave up only zero walks, the fewest she's had since back in March of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one double and one RBI. That double was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Avery Evans was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. She also launched a home run, marking her first of the season. Kyera Combs was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Lake Norman kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 5-2 when they post 11 or more hits.

Lake Norman pushed their record up to 6-6 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Cox Mill, their loss dropped their record down to 1-10.

Coming up, Lake Norman will challenge Davie at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Davie's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Lake Norman's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Cox Mill, they will take on Olympic at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Cox Mill is facing Olympic at the right time seeing as Olympic is stuck on an 11-game losing streak.
