The Morristown Yellow Jackets will challenge the Edinburgh Lancers at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Morristown is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.
For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last four times Morristown and Southwestern have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Friday. The Yellow Jackets fell 9-5 to the Spartans.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last game, Edinburgh made sure to put some runs up on the board against Indiana School for the Deaf on Friday. The Lancers were the clear victors by a 12-3 margin over the Deaf Hoosiers. Considering the Lancers' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Cole White and Avynn Whitaker were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, White tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Whitaker pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has become a key player for Edinburgh: the team is 5-2 when he allows at most two hits, but 2-13 otherwise. At bat, White went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Whitaker got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. That's the most hits White has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rylan Londeree, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Brayden Schoettmer also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Edinburgh always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .577. They are 5-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Edinburgh pushed their record up to 7-15 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Morristown, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-15.
Morristown beat Edinburgh 14-11 in their previous meeting on May 2nd. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Yellow Jackets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
