It was a good run, but the Silver Fighting Colts unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Thursday. They took a serious blow against Clovis, falling 63-18. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Silver has scored all season.
Taylianna Castillo and Nyssa Torres certainly did their best on Thursday to try and avoid the loss. Castillo scored five points, while Torres scored two points along with seven rebounds.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Silver struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Clovis' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Zarai Lewis led the charge by scoring 14 points along with six rebounds and three steals. The contest was Lewis' ninth in a row with at least ten points. Kailyn Jefferson was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with three steals.
Silver's loss ended a eight-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 5-3. As for Clovis, they pushed their record up to 8-1 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season.
Silver won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Valley at 2:30 p.m. on December 22nd. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in New Mexico (Valley is ranked 63rd, while Silver is ranked 46th). Clovis won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against La Cueva at 5:50 p.m. on December 22nd. La Cueva is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
