The McGregor Bulldogs will head out on the road to face off against the Riesel Indians at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
McGregor will bounce into Monday's matchup after beating Whitney, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Bulldogs were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over the Wildcats on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bulldogs.
Emma Knox spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Addyson Todd was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
Meanwhile, Riesel waltzed into their game on Thursday with nine straight wins... but they left with ten. They put the hurt on the Longhorns with a sharp 11-1 win. Riesel's victory was all the more impressive since the Longhorns were averaging only 4.04 runs allowed on the season.
Kyleigh Benton (UAM) made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Benton (UAM) was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sveva Mariotti, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 4-for-4. Those home runs marked the first that she has launched this season. Raizel Chaparro was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Riesel pushed their record up to 17-4-1 with the win, which was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for McGregor, their record now sits at 22-3.
