The Mater Dei Catholic Crusaders will face off against the Olympian Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mater Dei Catholic is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.
Mater Dei Catholic lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Christian, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Tuesday's matchup. The Crusaders were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Patriots on Tuesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Crusaders considering their one-run performance the contest before.
Arri Romero spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on five hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in 15 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Mater Dei Catholic got a big performance out of Bella Harris, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Bella Hiner was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.
Harris wasn't the only one making solid contact: Mater Dei Catholic kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Olympian fell victim to Mt. Carmel and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sundevils. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Alexandra Perez was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out 13 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk).
On the hitting side, Olympian saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Isabella Zamora, who went 1-for-3 with one double. That double marked the first that Zamora hit this season.
Mater Dei Catholic pushed their record up to 13-5 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games. As for Olympian, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-6-1.
Mater Dei Catholic beat Olympian 6-3 in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Will the Crusaders repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
