Softball Recap: Shelton Wins Going Away Against Hillhouse

While Shelton didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past the Hillhouse Academics 14-1 on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Gaels, who have now won six matchups by nine runs or more so far this season.

Sammi Denihan was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Shelton got a massive performance out of Tori Silva, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Avery Wheeler was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Shelton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .421. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .421 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Shelton's victory bumped their record up to 6-1.

Shelton didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 10-1 win against Sacred Heart Academy on the 23rd. As for Hillhouse, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, an 18-2 defeat against Sheehan on the 23rd.
