Basketball Recap: Avon Park Skates Past Lake Placid with Ease

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Avon Park). They blew past the Lake Placid Dragons 62-35 on Tuesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

It was another big night for Tytianna Allen, who posted 39 points in addition to six boards and four steals. That makes it six consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Avon Park's points. Another player making a difference was Jaymara Jackson, who had 11 points and six rebounds.

Avon Park smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in six consecutive matchups.

Despite the defeat, Lake Placid saw an underclassman step up: freshman Haylee Stewart dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten boards. Those ten rebounds set a new season-high mark for Stewart. The team also got some help courtesy of Trinity Smalls, who put up 12 points and five rebounds.

With the victory, Avon Park broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-5. As for Lake Placid, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-7.

Avon Park will venture away from home to challenge DeSoto County at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. DeSoto County is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.3 points per game this season. As for Lake Placid, they will host Hardee at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hardee will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Lake Placid surely won't give up without a fight.
