Barrington and Portsmouth are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2016, but likely not for long. The Eagles are taking a road trip to square off against the Patriots at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Barrington is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.6 runs per game this season.
Barrington took a 13-run loss the last time they faced off against East Greenwich, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Eagles narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Avengers 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Eagles have posted since May 9, 2024.
Kendall Fisher (2025) spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Barrington's win was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Ruby Ciummo (2025), who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Alyssa Conaty (2025) also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Barrington was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Portsmouth came into Wednesday's matchup having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They put the hurt on Woonsocket with a sharp 15-0 victory on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Patriots, who have now won six games by ten runs or more so far this season.
Emily Bronson and Lilly Morgado did most of the damage at the plate: Bronson got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Morgado went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those two stolen bases gave Morgado a new career-high. Kylie Toner was another key player, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two RBI and one run.
Barrington has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. As for Portsmouth, their record now sits at 6-8.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Barrington hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.9 home runs per game. However, it's not like Portsmouth struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Everything went Barrington's way against Portsmouth in their previous matchup back in April, as Barrington made off with a 12-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
