The Potter-Dix Coyotes's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They fell just short of Garden County by a score of 42-39. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss Potter-Dix has suffered yet this season.
When it comes to explaining why Potter-Dix lost, one person who can't be blamed is Madison Williamson. Despite the final result, she scored 22 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Williamson has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played.
Even though they lost, Potter-Dix were working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Garden County only posted two assists.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Garden County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Payton Fornander, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and seven steals. Fornander continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Karma Peterson was another key contributor, scoring six points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Potter-Dix's loss was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 3-10. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 29.7 points per game. As for Garden County, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-7.
Potter-Dix will head out on the road to challenge Prairie at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Prairie presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Potter-Dix in their respective states (Prairie is ranked 95th in Colorado, while Potter-Dix is ranked 236th in Nebraska). As for Garden County, they will square off against Leyton at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Leyton has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
