4A Region I District 5 recap October 22, 2013
Denton moved up to 434 from 551 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 4A Region I District 5. The Broncos were able to move up by besting Brewer 51-16.
Guyer was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in the league. The Wildcats vanquished Lake Dallas 66-3 earlier in the week.
Rider's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Chase London threw for 141 and 1 touchdown and Davon Allison had 96 yards receiving. On the ground Carlos Fleeks chipped in 121 yards. Tj Vasher helped Rider's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 31 yards.
Jamie King was a passing and rushing force as Azle fell to the Raiders. He completed 5 passes for 107 yards and 1 touchdown and also ran for 56 yards.
Allison was the best wideout in the league this week as Rider topped the Hornets. Allison tallied 7 receptions for 96 yards. Vasher helped Rider's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 31 yards.
Leading 4A Region I District 5 in both passing and receiving yards, Jim Garfield's team's London and Allison have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-1 quarterback London has thrown for 1,707 yards this season, while Allison has 40 catches for 837 yards. The Bears' Christian Gibson leads the league in rushing yards with 866.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Rider takes on second place Guyer. The Raiders topped Azle last week, while Guyer bested the Falcons.
Two of the top teams in the league will go toe-to-toe this week when Rider takes on John Walsh's team. The Raiders' offense has recorded 206 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while the Wildcats have permitted only 103 on the year.
Guyer was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after defeating Lake Dallas. The Wildcats came in at 22 in the state poll after placing at number 31 last week.
