Wilkes Central has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against The Surry Central Golden Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Wilkes Central will be strutting in after a win while Surry Central will be coming in after a loss.
Last Thursday, Wilkes Central didn't have too much trouble with Forbush at home as they won 29-14.
Meanwhile, Surry Central pushed their score all the way to 36 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They had to suffer through a rough 72-36 loss at the hands of East Surry. While losing is never fun, Surry Central can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 336th, while East Surry is ranked 165th).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Allen Huffman, who rushed for 148 yards and three touchdowns. Tripp Mcmillen also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Wilkes Central has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-4 record this season. As for Surry Central, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.
Wilkes Central strolled past Surry Central when the teams last played back in September of 2022 by a score of 50-34. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wilkes Central since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
