The Avella Eagles pushed their score all the way to 57 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They suffered a tough 79-57 loss at the hands of Union Area. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Avella has suffered yet this season.
Avella's loss came despite strong showings from Westley Burchianti and Bryce Wright. Burchianti scored 19 points, while Wright scored 17 points.
Leading Union Area to victory were Braylon Thomas and Lucas Stanley. Thomas scored 19 points along with six assists and four steals, while Stanley scored 24 points along with nine steals and six rebounds. Stanley hasn't dropped below 15points for nine straight games. Another player making a difference was Dayne Johnke, who scored six points along with eight rebounds.
Avella bumped their record down to 8-8 with that loss, which was their sixth straight on the road. As for Union Area, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a massive bump to their 7-9 record this season.
Avella will head out on the road to take on Jefferson-Morgan at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Jefferson-Morgan focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Monday. As for Union Area, they will be playing at home against Laurel at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Laurel is coming into the game on a six-game losing streak.
