Football Recap: Bowie Starts Season with Win at Home

Bowie gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They breezed past the Manor Mustangs to the tune of 49-14. The Bulldogs have beaten the Mustangs the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Mustangs has come to flipping the script.

Rhys Moreno had a dynamite game, rushing for 284 yards and four touchdowns on only 13 carries. His longest rush was for an impressive 59 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Christian Heywood was another key player, rushing for 56 yards and one TD.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Bowie was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 413 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Manor only rushed for 93 rushing yards.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Bowie's defense and their three sacks. Mason East refused to say out of the backfield, picking up 1.5 sacks all by himself. Bowie received some extra help from Cooper Medeiros, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

Manor's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Xavier Hill, who rushed for 65 yards and one score, and Jaylon Fenix, who picked up 69 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bowie will challenge Vista Ridge at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Manor, they will face off against Harker Heights at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
