Yulee has gone a perfect 3-0 against Orange Park recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Yulee Hornets will host the Orange Park Raiders at 7:00 p.m. Yulee is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
Yulee came up into this matchup off a tough ten-run loss on Tuesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Bradford by a score of 10-8 on Thursday. The Hornets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Evan Wands and Jared Malphrus did some serious damage despite the final result: Wands scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Malphrus scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Malphrus also hit a hit, marking his first of the season.
Even though they lost, Yulee kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Orange Park came up short against Middleburg on Thursday and fell 5-2.
John Nyberg was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Nyberg was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Nyberg wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Brian Allen, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Orange Park's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Yulee, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Yulee has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Orange Park struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Yulee came out on top in a nail-biter against Orange Park in their previous matchup back in March of 2022, sneaking past 3-1. Does Yulee have another victory up their sleeve, or will Orange Park turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
