Basketball Recap: Bonita Springs Takes a Loss

Bonita Springs was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 31st straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a blow against the Evangelical Christian Sentinels, falling 63-34. The Bullsharks were not able to make up for their loss to the Sentinels from their previous meeting back in December of 2023.

Despite the defeat, Bonita Springs saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Trey Bronson dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bronson has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Alexander Peralta-Delgado, who posted seven points.

Evangelical Christian found their leader in sophomore Quez Outten, who went 11 of 18 on his way to 26 points in addition to six boards and five steals. With that strong performance, Outten is now averaging an impressive 2.4 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Drew Irwin, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 15 points and five steals.

Bonita Springs' loss dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Evangelical Christian, their record is now 4-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bonita Springs will challenge Southwest Florida Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Southwest Florida Christian has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Evangelical Christian, they will square off against Saint Stephen's Episcopal at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Evangelical Christian is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.2 points per game this season.
