The Rockmart Yellowjackets will head out on the road to square off against the Murray County Indians at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Rockmart knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 19 matchups -- so hopefully Murray County likes a good challenge.
Last Saturday, Rockmart strolled past Bowdon with points to spare, taking the game 69-52. Given Rockmart's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 130th, while Bowdon is ranked 532nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Rockmart can attribute much of their success to Samuel Johnson, who scored 22 points along with two steals, and Treylin Davis, who scored 19 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Davis is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last eight games he's played. Hunter Atkins was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, even though Gordon Central scored an imposing 58 points on Friday, Murray County still came out on top. Murray County walked away with a 65-58 win over Gordon Central.
Rockmart's win bumped their record up to 16-3. As for Murray County, their win bumped their record up to 11-7.
Rockmart came out on top in a nail-biter against Murray County in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, sneaking past 70-68. The rematch might be a little tougher for Rockmart since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
