The Calvary Baptist Cougars are headed away from home for the first time to square off against the Cornerstone Christian Crusaders at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are still undefeated (Calvary Baptist has five wins , while Cornerstone Christian has six dating back to last season).
On Thursday, everything came up roses for Calvary Baptist against United Christian Academy as the team secured a 54-6 win. The Cougars pushed the score to 54-0 by the end of the third, a deficit the Eagles cut but never quite recovered from.
Calvary Baptist's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Devin DeBuono, who threw for 239 yards and five touchdowns on only 18 passes, and also punched in one rushing score. DeBuono also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, picking up a sack, forcing one fumble, and making seven total tackles in addition to snagging an interception which he returned one-yard for a touchdown. Dominic Neal helped DeBuono out on the ground, picking up 55 receiving yards and one score, while also rushing for 37 yards and one TD.

Calvary Baptist didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. DeBuono and Chris Bacarela each grabbed an interception. DeBuono has been hot recently, having also posted three or more passing touchdowns the last four times he's played. He got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Cornerstone Christian blew past Public Safety Academy, posting a 76-20 victory. Given the Crusaders' advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked first, while the Phoenix are ranked 40th) , the win on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
A big part of Cornerstone Christian's win came down to the chemistry between Dylan Kelly and his top target Cooper Lewin. Kelly rushed for 139 yards and three touchdowns while Lewin gained 227 total yards and seven touchdowns. Lewin showed off some serious burst, lighting up the secondary with a catch for 63 yards. Matthew Huffman helped out on the ground, rushing for 80 yards.
Special teams played a big role in the game for Cornerstone Christian, adding 16 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Lewin, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Cornerstone Christian's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB 13 times. Mason Sanchez led the group effort, picking up five of those sacks all by himself. Lewin got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Calvary Baptist's record is now 5-0. As for Cornerstone Christian, their record now sits at 6-0.
Calvary Baptist took a serious blow against Cornerstone Christian in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, falling 50-0. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Kelly, who rushed for 188 yards and one score on only 12 carries, and also threw for 111 yards and a pair of TDs.
