The Oregon City Pioneers will head out on the road to square off against the Tualatin Timberwolves at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The last three games Oregon City has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Oregon City came out on top against Lake Oswego on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run third inning. The Pioneers narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Lakers 7-6. That's two games straight that the Pioneers have won by just one run.
Ellie Joseph was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in ten consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Oregon City let Elise Bean and Chloe Stromme run wild. Bean went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double, while Stromme went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most runs Stromme has posted since back in May of 2024.
Oregon City kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.9 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 10.4.
Meanwhile, Tualatin fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Tigard on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 5-4. The Timberwolves just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.
Oregon City is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-11 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Tualatin, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-8.
Everything went Oregon City's way against Tualatin in their previous matchup last Wednesday, as Oregon City made off with an 11-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pioneers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
