It was a good run, but the Iola Mustangs unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell 63-51 to West Franklin. While losing is never fun, Iola can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 78th, while West Franklin is ranked sixth).
Iola's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Landon Weide, who scored 12 points along with 6 assists and 5 rebounds, and Cortland Carson who scored 20 points along with 8 rebounds. Carson scored a full 39.2% of Iola's points, the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucas Maier, who scored 6 points along with 10 rebounds.
Iola's defeat dropped their record down to 3-1. As for West Franklin, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.
Iola will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Burlington at 7:00 p.m. on December 12th. As for West Franklin, they will be playing at home against Northern Heights on Tuesday. Northern Heights is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
