Hillsboro hasn't had much luck against Miami Trace recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Indians will venture away from home to take on the Panthers at 5:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Hillsboro gave up the first runs on Saturday, but they didn't let that get them down. They blew past Fayetteville-Perry 18-8. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Indians.
Zach Brown made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off five hits. Brown was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Gavin Greer was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Jeven Hochstuhl, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Miami Trace strolled into their game on Saturday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They came out on top against Westfall by a score of 6-2.
Like Hillsboro, Miami Trace also got a great game from a two-way player: Gaige Stuckey. He tossed 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. Stuckey has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
In other pitching news, Xavier Lawhorn tossed a big game, pitching 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits.
Back at the plate, Evan Colegrove was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4. Brody McBee was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Miami Trace's record is now 5-0. As for Hillsboro, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Hillsboro might still be hurting after the 17-3 loss they got from Miami Trace when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Indians avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
