After flying high against the Clayton Comets on Friday, the Garner Trojans came back down to earth. Garner was beaten by Southeast Raleigh 75-31 on Saturday. While losing is never fun, Garner can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 381st, while Southeast Raleigh is ranked 102nd).
Olivia Jacobs and Sumayah Jones certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Jacobs scored 20 points along with six blocks, while Jones scored six points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Jones has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played.
Garner's loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-14. As for Southeast Raleigh, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 14 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season.
Garner will head out on the road to challenge Fuquay - Varina at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Fuquay - Varina focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 28 on Friday. As for Southeast Raleigh, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Clayton at 6:00 p.m. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Clayton has struggled recently with 12 losses in a row, while Southeast Raleigh will arrive with four straight wins.
