It was a good run, but the Kellis Cougars unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell to Willow Canyon 55-51. Kellis was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Willow Canyon apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January.
When it comes to explaining why Kellis lost, one person who can't be blamed is Nevaeh Limbacher. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 21 points and 14 rebounds. Those 21 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Mia Wolfe, who scored 16 points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Kellis' loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-3. As for Willow Canyon, their win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Kellis will be home for the holidays to greet Centennial at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Centennial focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Tuesday. Willow Canyon won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Desert Mountain at 7:00 p.m. on December 21st. Desert Mountain will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings (they are ranked 217th, while Willow Canyon is ranked 93rd).
