Sadly, the Wellington Eagles are still looking for their first win of the season after 15 matches. They lost to Valley at home by a decisive 58-40 margin on Wednesday. Wellington has struggled against Valley recently, as their game on Wednesday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
When it comes to explaining why Wellington lost, one person who can't be blamed is AJ Ferris. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. It was the first time this season that Ferris pulled down eight or more rebounds. Enrique Odreman was another key contributor, scoring five points along with eight rebounds.
Valley had a senior duo take command as Aidan Brownell almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds and Owen Peterson scored 15 points along with six rebounds. Brownell is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed four or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Sarchet, who scored six points along with five rebounds.
Wellington dropped their record down to 0-15 with that defeat, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 27.1 points per game. As for Valley, their win ended a 13-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-14.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wellington will take on Brush at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Wellington focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Wednesday. As for Valley, they and Eaton will face off at 7:00 p.m. on February 6th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. One thing working in Valley's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four contests.
