The Greenfield Bruins will head out on the road to face off against the Branham Bruins at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Greenfield comes in on six and Branham on five.
Greenfield can now show off six landslide victories after their most recent game on Friday. They blew past Gonzales 38-0 on the road. The match was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Greenfield had established a 24 point advantage.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Greenfield to victory, but perhaps none more so than Allen Rodriguez, who rushed for 40 yards and two touchdowns.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Gonzales to a paltry 146 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Greenfield's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out six times before it was all said and done. Bryan Ortega was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up four sacks himself.
Meanwhile, in a tight contest that could have gone either way, Branham made off with a 21-20 victory over Pioneer.
Elias Antillon continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 134 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 carries. Antillon has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last four times he's played.
Greenfield's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-9 Pajaro Valley and 1-9 Soledad (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 24% over those games). As for Branham, their victory bumped their record up to 8-2.
