The Bishop Brossart Mustangs will square off against the Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Bishop Brossart will be strutting in after a victory while Newport Central Catholic will be coming in after a loss.
Bishop Brossart's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over Newport. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.
Carter Boruske looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
At the plate, Keagen Gulley was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Isaac Amin was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Bishop Brossart kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Newport only managed one hit.
Meanwhile, Newport Central Catholic suffered their closest defeat since March 22, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of Simon Kenton by a score of 3-1. The contest marked the Thoroughbreds' lowest-scoring match so far this season.
Newport Central Catholic saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ian Mann, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base.
Bishop Brossart now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Newport Central Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 17-10.
Bishop Brossart was able to grind out a solid win over Newport Central Catholic in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, winning 6-2. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Thoroughbreds turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
