Nathan Jewell and Zechariah Laidlaw provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Pacific Lutheran. The connection went for 80 yards, the longest such play in 8-Man Freelance (8 Man) this season.
St. Michael's Prep extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Crossroads Christian, 50-42. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
Calvary Chapel's dynamic duo of Jewell and B.J. Bell proved tough for the Stingrays to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Jewell threw for 219 yards and three touchdowns and Bell had 109 yards receiving. Laidlaw helped Calvary Chapel's passing attack out by catching three balls for 101 yards.
Ricky Nuno was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 126 yards on 20 carries as Orcutt Academy beat Pacific Lutheran. Teammate Robert Reed added to the ground attack by rushing for 93 yards.
Jamin Lee made the biggest impact on defense this week as Calvary Chapel bested Gene Salas's team. The 6-foot-2 senior pulled down one interception, recorded one fumble and grabbed three sacks.
Tom Laidlaw's team's Jewell and Laidlaw have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 8-Man Freelance (8 Man) in both passing and receiving yards. Jewell has thrown for 967 yards this season, while Laidlaw, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 15 catches for 334 yards. The Spartans' Reed leads the league in rushing yards with 363.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when St. Michael's Prep takes on the Grizzlies. Aaron Meschuk's team is in first place, while Calvary Chapel is in fifth place.
