Even though the George Jenkins Eagles scored an imposing 68 points on Monday, the Discovery Spartans still came out on top. Discovery sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 71-68 win over George Jenkins. Given Discovery's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 187th, while George Jenkins is ranked 531st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Darius Livingston was his usual excellent self, scoring 26 points along with five assists and five rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Discovery's points. Another player making a difference was Dontae Hines, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Discovery's victory bumped their record up to 14-5. As for George Jenkins, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-15.
Discovery will be playing in front of their home fans against Auburndale at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. George Jenkins won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Lake Gibson at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd. Lake Gibson is on a three-game streak of home losses, George Jenkins a five-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change.
