The Wheat Ridge Farmers can finally bid farewell to their five-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Conifer 34-32. The victory was just what Wheat Ridge needed coming off of a 49-26 loss in their prior matchup.
Wheat Ridge can attribute much of their success to Gianna Bergren, who scored six points along with seven steals. Another player making a difference was Lyric Ashford, who scored 11 points.
Conifer lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Megan Swearengin, who scored 12 points. Finley Johnson was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
The victory got Wheat Ridge back to even at 7-7. As for Conifer, they dropped their record down to 2-10 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wheat Ridge will face off against the Gators at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Standley Lake presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Farmers in Colorado (the Gators are ranked 54th, while the Farmers are ranked 224th). As for Conifer, they will head out on the road to take on the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Dakota Ridge focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Friday.
