The Classical Academy has been on the road for three straight, but on Thursday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Mitchell Marauders at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully The Classical Academy is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Mitchell in Colorado (The Classical Academy is ranked 105th, while Mitchell is ranked 321st).
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but The Classical Academy ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They pulled ahead with a 42-41 photo finish over Falcon.
The Classical Academy had a senior duo take command as Alaina Bonacquista scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and five steals and Mairin Carpenter scored eight points along with five rebounds and four steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Bonacquista has scored at least a third of The Classical Academy's points. Another player making a difference was Ashlyn Delaney, who scored six points along with six rebounds.
While Mitchell couldn't quite beat Sand Creek on Friday, the two-point margin was a huge improvement compared to the 55-point loss they were dealt last Wednesday. Mitchell fell just short of Sand Creek by a score of 31-29. Mitchell has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
The Classical Academy is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. As for Mitchell, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-17.
Everything came up roses for The Classical Academy against Mitchell when the teams last played back in January as the squad secured a 80-7 win. With The Classical Academy ahead 46-5 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
