The York Dukes will venture away from home to square off against the Lane Tech Champions at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. York is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.1 runs per game this season.
York blew Willowbrook out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Saturday Willowbrook got their revenge. The Dukes fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 6-4. That makes it the first time this season the Dukes have let down their home crowd.
Riggins Kohl was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run over 4.1 innings pitched. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent over his last three contests.
At the plate, Josh Fleming was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Marco Giorno, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Lane Tech ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out Lincoln Park 7-6. That's two games straight that the Champions have won by just one run.
Lane Tech also got a great performance from Alex Delaney as he didn't allow a single earned run over 5.2 innings pitched. Delaney has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Zolan Wyatt was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Conor Sullivan was another key player, going 1-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.
Lane Tech kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Lane Tech is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 15 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.1 runs over those games. As for York, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 15-3.
York beat Lane Tech 10-6 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Dukes since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
