After a string of four wins, the Sickles Gryphons's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They received a tough blow as they fell 61-42 to Plant. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Sickles has scored all season.
When it comes to explaining why Sickles lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kelsey Sharpe. Despite the final result, she scored 20 points along with nine rebounds and four steals. The match was Sharpe's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Rye'Keriyah Newton, who scored four points along with ten rebounds.
Plant's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Azzariah Styles, who scored 22 points along with six rebounds and five assists. Styles is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Jazlyn Bowman was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with three steals.
Sickles' loss dropped their record down to 4-1. As for Plant, they pushed their record up to 5-0 with that victory, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season.
Sickles will face off against Wiregrass Ranch at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Wiregrass Ranch comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for Plant, they will face off against Cardinal Gibbons at 7:10 p.m. on Friday. Cardinal Gibbons presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Plant in Florida (Cardinal Gibbons is ranked 35th, while Plant is ranked 113th).
