The Owen Warhorses's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their sixth straight loss. They fell 73-66 to Mountain Heritage. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Owen's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Asante Martin, who scored 21 points along with eight rebounds. Martin has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last eight times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Wesley Burk, who scored 14 points.
It was another big night for Jace Loven, who scored 22 points along with nine rebounds and two steals for Mountain Heritage. That's the first time this season that Loven pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Max Gilley, who scored 11 points along with three steals and two blocks.
Owen's defeat was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-9. As for Mountain Heritage, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-8.
Owen will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Rosman at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Rosman focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Friday. As for Mountain Heritage, they will head out on the road to take on Avery County at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. Avery County is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
