Marshall is 0-10 against El Monte since May of 2021 but things could change on Wednesday. The Eagles are taking a road trip to face off against the Lions at 3:30 p.m. Marshall has given up an average of 14.1 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Marshall lost 16-3 to Rosemead on Friday.
Marshall saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Roselyn Estrella-Salmeron, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, El Monte hadn't done well against Arroyo recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Lions blew past the Knights 13-3. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won eight contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
The team relied heavily on Sophia Herrera, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Natalie Meza was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs and one RBI.
El Monte was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
El Monte has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.9 runs over those games. As for Marshall, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-8.
Wednesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Marshall has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .620. However, it's not like El Monte struggles in that department as they've averaged .499. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Marshall suffered a grim 15-3 defeat to El Monte in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
