The Timpanogos Timberwolves will head out on the road to square off against the Orem Tigers at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Timpanogos is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.1 runs per game this season.
Timpanogos managed to slip by Payson the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Timberwolves came up short against the Lions on Tuesday, falling 16-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Timberwolves have suffered since March 4th.
Kelci Gingras made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-3. Ava Duncan also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Orem). They blew past Provo 23-0 on Tuesday. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.
Kiley Hoshnic made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Orem got a massive performance out of Kate Allred, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3. Those three runs gave Allred a new career-high. Cheyanne Wells was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.
Orem hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive games.
Orem pushed their record up to 13-8 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.7 runs over those games. As for Timpanogos, their loss dropped their record down to 13-4.
Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Timpanogos has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .488. However, it's not like Orem struggles in that department as they've averaged .471. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Timpanogos came out on top in a nail-biter against Orem in their previous meeting back in March, sneaking past 6-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Timberwolves since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
