Caldwell Academy suffered their biggest defeat since November 14, 2023 on Wednesday. They took a serious blow against Wesleyan Christian Academy, falling 78-28. While losing is never fun, Caldwell Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 245th, while Wesleyan Christian Academy is ranked 53rd).
Among those leading the charge was Ashley Browne, who scored 14 points along with nine rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Blythe Cunningham, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Caldwell Academy's loss was their fourth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 5-6. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 27.5 points per game. As for Wesleyan Christian Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Caldwell Academy will square off against High Point Christian Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Wesleyan Christian Academy, they will head out on the road to challenge Forsyth Country Day at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Forsyth Country Day is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
