Basketball Game Preview: Rocky Mount Gryphons vs. Roanoke Rapids Yellowjackets

Rocky Mount has gone 8-0 against Roanoke Rapids recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Rocky Mount Gryphons will square off against the Roanoke Rapids Yellowjackets at 6:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Rocky Mount has nine straight victories, Roanoke Rapids has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Rocky Mount is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Nash Central: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Rocky Mount blew Nash Central out of the water with a 67-21 final score. The Gryphons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten games by 20 points or more this season.

Kira Jones was her usual excellent self, going 7 for 14 on her way to 17 points along with six steals and three blocks. Her evening made it 13 games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Keysha Mizzell was another key player, going 5 of 11 en route to 12 points and four steals.

Rocky Mount was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Nash Central only racked up three assists.

Meanwhile, Roanoke Rapids came up short against Franklinton on Monday and fell 49-39.

Rocky Mount's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-1. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.0 points per game. As for Roanoke Rapids, their loss dropped their record down to 6-10.

Everything came up roses for Rocky Mount against Roanoke Rapids in their previous meeting back in January, as the team secured a 72-19 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Rocky Mount since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
