The Manitou Springs Mustangs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fifth straight loss. They suffered a tough 50-30 loss at the hands of Banning Lewis Academy. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Manitou Springs has suffered since December 9, 2023.
Manitou Springs' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cassidy Blechman, who scored ten points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was McKesson Rhodes, who scored eight points along with 14 rebounds.
Kaylee Gentsch was the offensive standout of the game as she scored 18 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Elany Canada, who scored 12 points.
Manitou Springs has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season. As for Banning Lewis Academy, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-3.
Manitou Springs will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Pueblo Central at 11:30 a.m. Pueblo Central is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for Banning Lewis Academy, they will head out on the road to challenge Woodland Park at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
