Volleyball Recap: Fort Bend Kempner Find Success

Fort Bend Kempner proved they can win big on Friday (they won by three) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the Lamar Consolidated Mustangs 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cougars have posted since August 30th.

The match was a true back-and-forth as no team won consecutive sets, but in the end it was Fort Bend Kempner who won the one that mattered. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 27-25, 10-25, 25-13, 22-25, 15-6.

Among those leading the charge was Maylin Gutierrez, who had 17 digs and one assist. Those 17 digs gave her a new career-high.

Fort Bend Kempner was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 11 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least nine aces in three consecutive matchups.

Fort Bend Kempner's victory bumped their record up to 13-19. As for Lamar Consolidated, with the loss, they broke their three-match winning streak and moved their record to 19-8.
