The St. Stephen's & St. Agnes Saints pushed their score all the way to 62 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 70-62 hit to the loss column at the hands of Academy of the New Church.
Riley Jacobs and Cody Gordon certainly did their best on Saturday to try and avoid the loss. Jacobs scored 16 points along with nine rebounds, while Gordon scored 16 points along with five rebounds. That's the first time this season that Gordon scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Blake Neal, who scored five points.
Academy of the New Church's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Bahsil Laster led the charge by scoring 20 points along with nine rebounds. The game was Laster's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Cameron Smith was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with six rebounds.
St. Stephen's & St. Agnes' loss dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Academy of the New Church, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-2.
St. Stephen's & St. Agnes is on the road again on Saturday and play against Potomac School on January 6, 2024. As for Academy of the New Church, they will face off against Shipley at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
