This season hasn't been kind to the Wagener-Salley War Eagles, who are still winless after their 17th contest. They took a 77-64 hit to the loss column at the hands of Blackville-Hilda on Thursday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (55), Wagener-Salley still had to take the loss.
Blackville-Hilda's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Messiah Mcfadden, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 14 rebounds. Mcfadden hasn't dropped below two blocks for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Arkel Thomas, who scored 19 points along with five steals.
Wagener-Salley dropped their record down to 0-17 with that loss, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Blackville-Hilda, their win ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-12.
Wagener-Salley will take on the Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. North presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the War Eagles in South Carolina (the Eagles are ranked 65th, while the War Eagles are ranked 309th). As for Blackville-Hilda, they will head out on the road to challenge the Vikings at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
