Softball Recap: Monday's Win Is George Jenkins' Sixth in Last Eight Outings

George Jenkins was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Auburndale on Monday. The Eagles blew past the Bloodhounds 10-0. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by six runs or more this season.

Layla Hinojosa made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kamryn Pickering, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Janalyn Duque, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

George Jenkins hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in four consecutive games.

George Jenkins has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.1 runs over those games. As for Auburndale, they dropped their record down to 5-17 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. George Jenkins will face off against Mulberry at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season.
