On Saturday, Ramona came up short against Valley Christian and fell 56-48. While losing is never fun, Ramona can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 690th, while Valley Christian is ranked 219th).
Ramona's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chase Newman, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Newman hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Daniel Penner, who scored 12 points.
Ramona has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost nine of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season. As for Valley Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-10 record this season.
Ramona will be playing at home against San Marcos at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. San Marcos is looking to tack on another W to their five-game streak on the road. As for Valley Christian, they will square off against Maranatha at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Maranatha knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matchups -- so hopefully Valley Christian likes a good challenge.
