Basketball Recap: Ella Vondracek's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Sedgwick over Lyons

Sedgwick was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 45-41 heartbreaker at the hands of the Lyons Lions. The Cardinals were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Lions apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January.

Sedgwick lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Ella Vondracek, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten boards. Vondracek is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Gaby Petersen, who posted eight points along with seven rebounds and five assists.

Even though they lost, Sedgwick smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive board total in three consecutive matchups.

Sedgwick's record is now 1-3. As for Lyons, with the win, they broke their 19-game losing streak and moved their record to 1-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Sedgwick Cardinals face off against the Moundridge Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Moundridge will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Sedgwick surely won't give up without a fight. As for Lyons, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Sacred Heart.
