AA District 16 recap Nov. 7, 2012
Sheffield extended the longest winning streak in AA District 16 this week by beating Raleigh-Egypt, 20-18. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Knights.
Sheffield moved up to 131 from 166 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Lashawn Lester's team climbed the ranks as a result of topping the Pharaohs 20-18.
Mitchell's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Tomadreus Trezevant threw for 230 and three touchdowns and Dejuan Mcquarters had 136 yards receiving. On the ground Dewun Todd chipped in 38 yards. Antonio Gilliam helped Mitchell's passing attack out by catching one ball for 54 yards.
The Tigers' Trezevant and Mcquarters have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Trezevant has thrown for 1795 yards this season, while Mcquarters, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 37 catches for 808 yards. The Knights' Tarrance Dixon leads the league in rushing yards with 1307.
Sheffield and Raleigh-Egypt played the most hotly contested game in AA District 16 this week, with Sheffield eventually emerging with a 20-18 victory.
