After losing to East Knox the last time they met, Mt. Vernon decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Yellowjackets were the clear victors by a 15-5 margin over the Bulldogs on Saturday. Winning may never get old, but the Yellowjackets sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Dammon Wolfe was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with three runs. He has become a key player for Mt. Vernon: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-11 otherwise.
In other batting news, Jax McPeek was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with six RBI and three doubles. He is becoming a predictor of Mt. Vernon's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is undefeated (and 5-11 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Greyson Deem, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Mt. Vernon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. They are 4-2 when they post 11 or more hits.
Mt. Vernon's record now sits at 8-11. As for East Knox, with the loss, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 17-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Mt. Vernon will face off against Johnstown-Monroe at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for East Knox, they will take on Danville at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
